The Story

Shows that art is a potent interlocutor between cultures. Redolent with images of pathos to evoke a people's struggle for freedom, while at the same time depicting the fiesta bedlam of a nation confronting its problem by rollicking in jocularity or brooding with wearied irony, the sheer power of the imagery and the range of ideas and emotions in this show evince the very raw nature of art from this critical period in Philippine history. The fact that these myriad challenges persist today is reinforced by the inclusion of works of more recent vintage. - Ramon E.S. Lerma Director & Chief Curator Ateneo Art Gallery
